The complex relationship between the United States of America and Latin America must be understood, specially based on the vision, the anxieties, and the problems of the South. That is the basis of this research area. It includes the mixed feelings of nations that admire and imitate, or wish to imitate, the colossal development of North America, its democratic institutions and its spirit of open land for all, but those nations, at the same time, have reservations and even strong animosity to North American power and relationships of dependence in the region. We have committed ourselves to dispassionate analyze the American culture, its society, institutions, and economy. We recognize that it is the only way to access the ideal mechanisms for understanding each other and for the mutual, harmonic, respectful, and joint development we all yearn for.
