Catholicism is fundamental to understand Venezuela, a country where 80% of its population profess this faith as it was established in the rest of Latin America. Not in vein Venezuela is part of Latin America the region with more Catholics around the world and considered as “The Continent of Hope” by the Church. Besides the enormous problems that Catholicism has faced since emancipation, among them secularism and anticlericalism, and more recently the expansion of new cults and growing social weakness of the Church, it still has an important role to play in the region. This area of research is intended to analyze this process based on a more integral understanding of the continent, its values, and challenges for the future.
