One of the first research areas of the Human Rights Center since its foundation in 2000 was the Refugees International Law. During these years the work has revolved around the defense of the right to asylum of refugees and its relation to the enjoyment of the rest of the human rights from a perspective on the integral application of the valid regulations in this area (whether they are national or international regulations applicable to the country). For this reason, we have worked together with the human rights organizations that accompany refugees in Venezuela especially with the Refuge Group of the Forum for Life, and we promoted in 2004 the creation of the Sergio Vieira de Melo Chair at UCAB. The Jesuit Service for Refugees in Venezuela and the UCAB Human Rights Center are also part of it.
